Liverpool – a city of culture and heritage with people at its heart

Liverpool is one of the most vibrant cities in the UK. Famed for its culture and heritage, the city was European Capital of Culture in 2008 and has the UK’s largest collection of museums and galleries outside London. Liverpool Cathedral (shown above) is the largest cathedral in the UK.

In 2004, UNESCO granted World Heritage Site status to Liverpool’s unique and historic waterfront, reflecting the city’s significance as a major maritime port at the time of Britain’s greatest global influence.

Academically, Liverpool is renowned as a centre of scientific and medical research. Founded in 1898, the world famous Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is the world’s oldest school in this field, with a stellar reputation for scientific breakthroughs and educational excellence.

The Arena and Convention Centre (ACC) Liverpool is a major events and conference venue located in the former Kings Dock on the city’s historic waterfront. The site opened in 2008 and comprises the BT Convention Centre and the Echo Arena. It was voted the best UK conference centre in 2016 at the m&t industry awards.
